Not everyone is good at keeping secrets, are they? Take Microsoft
for example; they have confirmed, after accidentally leaking their
plans, that they are to purchase email startup Acompli for an
undisclosed amount. The company came to prominence thanks to its
synonymous app for Android and iOS, which has been very favourably
reviewed by numerous people, earlier in 2014. It is assumed that Acompli originally caught Microsoft’s eye with their extensive support for the company’s Exchange servers.
Although limited Exchange email and calendar compatibility is ingrained into both Google and Apple’s mobile OS. Acompli
is capable of handling tasks such as responding to invites, creating
events and managing your contacts lists; all in a manner that is more
reminiscent of Microsoft’s Outlook application than a third-party app.
Because of this, an corporate acquisition
makes a great deal of sense, Microsoft may choose to either re-badge
the application something similar to ‘Outlook Mobile or maybe they can
use it as the corner stone for a new Outlook app for the iOS and Android
platforms.
The app is freely available to download,
in case you wanted to see what all the fuss is about before Microsoft
decides how they want to play ball. Currently the app is available as a free download for Android and iOS.
